ocr: Throughout the Cold War, Greece was closely allied with the West, although there are strong sympathies between the Greekcs, Russians and Serbs because of their shared Urthodox heritage. Greece withdrew from the military command ofNATO1 in 1974 in protest at the failure ofthe Alliance to prevent the Iurkash invasion of Cyprus. It has since rejoined under a tormula to negotiate with Turkey new command and control arrangements over the Aegean. These regional security issues, however, - - - remain unresolved.
